NAME: David Campbell

BIO: David is a faculty member of the Photography program at the Nova Scotia Community College/Waterfront Campus. He is a graduate of Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in London, Ontario where he studied commercial/ advertising photography and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. His career began in Toronto as a commercial/medical photographer at one of the cities leading teaching hospitals. After two years in Toronto he moved back to his native Nova Scotia to pursue a career in commercial/ advertising photography. In the next seven years as an independent commercial photographer in Halifax, his client list has included Time Magazine, Empire Company, Sobeys Stores, Central Guaranty, National Sea Products, Farmers Dairy, Aliant, Health and Welfare Canada, and Nova Scotia Power to name a few. In the fall of 1987 he joined Don Robinson to form Robinson/Campbell & Associates Ltd. and grew it to become one of the largest commercial studios in Eastern Canada with a shooting space capable of accommodating everything from food to 18-wheelers. In 1991, Robinson/Campbell became one of the first photography studios in Canada to adopt digital capture technology. They have been recognized nationally for their work with clients such as Aliant Telecom, Financial Post Magazine, Canada Post, Report on Business Magazine, Irving Oil and Nova Scotia Power Inc. In addition to teaching, David continues to consult privately in the areas of photography, digital imaging and new media. His most recent work can be found in the Scenic Highways of Canada and the Millennium stamp series from Canada Post. He was a founding member and President of the Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communications/Atlantic Chapter and continues to play an active roll. David has a Masters Degree in Art Education at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. His thesis entitled Human Interface Design: Cognitive Friction and The Culture of Clutter deals with the influence computers have had in our lives and the way in which we may affect change in hardware and software design while adapting to the vagaries of a flawed technology.
