OPENING RECEPTION on July 2 from 5-7pm
"As with its distant cousins the native Teepee and the Igloo, the Ice Fishing Hut has its own essential purpose. It must be weather resistant and transportable, giving basic shelter and access to the ground beneath it." From Marcus Schubert's curatorial statement.
The 24 beautiful images in this remarkable exhibition are a wonder to behold and as David Balzer from Toronto Life writes:
"Who needs air-conditioning when you have Johnson's austere photographs of far-north ice fishing huts to keep you cool? Set against white expanses and gray skies, and framed head-on, the huts are most memorable as blocks of colour; many of the works vaguely recall Kenneth Noland paintings. Johnson's study of the huts is also a field guide to their eccentricities. Each cabin bears the mark of its maker, a comment on the intrinsic relationship between necessity and creativity."

Thanks to our collegues in Montreal, CAPIC members across the country (including here in Toronto) have a unique opportunity to participate in an exhibition showcasing the work of CAPIC members.
The DEADLINE for submitting work is JULY 1st. There are no exceptions.
CAPIC Montreal is hosting a show entitled Expo Photo Montreal that is being held alongside the World Press Show this Fall. Both shows are being held in the Musee Juste Pour Rire but on a different floors. The show will run for one month and begin the first week in September.
There is a $300 entry fee that includes design and production of a 4' x 8' panel that showcases your work. You can submit between 3-15 images which will then be judged for participation and used to create the panels. Initial submission is free and you will be able to keep the panels but will have to arrange shipping.

EXPOPHOTO 2009
Hello everyone!
CAPIC Montreal is proud to invite all CAPIC members across the country to participate at the ExpoPhoto Montréal 2009 in collaboration with WorldPress photo. This highly attended photo exhibit will once again be presented at the Musee Juste Pour Rire on boulvard Saint-Laurent in Montréal.
Up to 20 000 people visited our exhibit last year. This year again, designers, art directors and art buyers from small to large agencies will be solicited. By taking advantage of the advertising and media buzz around World Press Photo exhibit, we are able to offer our exhibit to a very large and captive public. This year, we whish to make this event a showcase of CAPIC talent from all of Canada.
For a total cost of $300, the organizers will make a high resolution (Lamda) 48’’ x 96’’ composition of your images, hang, promote and organize the launch.
Here are the steps to follow:
1. Register online at the follow address: http://www.tinyurl.com/pztnk5
2. Send a low resolution version of the images you propose. You have until July 1st to send 3 to 15 of your best artistic work at mail.jml@championimaging.ca . The organizers will then select the images and combinations that best complete the entire expo. You will then be sent a proposed selection and composition within ten to twenty days.
3. Send the high resolution images and check. A check for the amount $338,62 is to be made to the order of Musee Juste Pour Rire. You then send it with the cd or dvd containing the high resolution images to:

If Chapters demonstrate the necessary numbers and interest, this show will certainly travel. If not, the images will be sent back to each related chapters.
CAPIC Montreal has chosen to reimburse $100 to each participating Montreal member to encourage participation. It’s up to each chapter to decide if and how they would participate.

CAPIC is hosting NOT ANOTHER F*&^%ING STAMPEDE PARTY! on July 8 at Trilogy Studios. It's not just another Stampede party, this party is all about BBQ, BOOTS, and Wii.
Come and test your virtual golf, bowling and driving skills against some of Alberta's best photographers. Side by side games projected larger than life on the cove will make for an emersive experience. Burgers, drinks, snacks and a frisbee or 2 will be served. Free burgers with a cash bar.

CAPIC Prairie is now hosting meetings and events for the Edmonton region! The first Edmonton CAPIC event will be an Xchange Night, a monthly event where photographers and illustrators can share ideas. Xchange Night is Wednesday July 22, 2009 at 7:00 PM at The Locker Room in the Ramada Inn. Bring anyone interested in photography and illustration.
