NOM: Kent Wingerak
SPÉCIALISATION: Fashion, Editorial, Advertising, Portrait, Glamour
BIOGRAPHIE: Kent Wingerak is a Vancouver based fashion, editorial and portrait photographer. Kent brings an impressive track record in the world of visual arts. Prior to embarking on his successful photography career, Kent was a 15 year veteran in the film and television industry having produced and executive produced over three hundred hours of film and television properties that have aired throughout the world stage. Kent has always had a natural affinity for still images. This affinity propelled him to study photography in the highly acclaimed Photography Program at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia. In making the transition from moving pictures to still photography, Kent made a conscious effort to keep storytelling a powerful part of his work. His photographs are dramatic and dynamic with strong visual composition. To create this, Kent uses light as a sculpting tool to add depth to his photographs and direct the viewer's attention. When viewing Kent's photos, you will notice images that are full of life through his utilization of motion and implied motion. In the case of his editorial and portrait work, Kent's drama is additionally achieved through the emotional connection he achieves with his subjects. The results are compelling and revealing images. A strong believer in being hands on during the post production process, Kent's photos are often highly stylized in terms of colour and mood. Kent strives to have the personality of his subject's come across as opposed to his personality as the photographer. His photographs communicate on an emotional level where he captures the subject's spirit, drawing in the viewer. He wants the viewer to not only relate to the photo, but feel as if they have eavesdropped into someone's environment. Kent's aim is to create powerful photographs that a viewer can relate to. Photographs that elicit an emotional reaction. "Anyone can take a picture. My job as a photographer is to move beyond merely taking a snapshot. Like a great song or a great movie, the hook is in the ability for the audience to feel an emotional connection...to get sucked into the lyrics of the song or for the movie have a sense of believability...the same emotional connection I hope holds true with my photographs."
